Just fit a mudflap, I've just put a new one on my fixed, blue peter job, made from part of an old washing up bottle.

I did that too... the curve fitted into the radius of the mudguard exactly too, just to make me even happier!

Same here but with rubber flaps, Here's my "upgraded" rear and front mudguards:

As for stopping water trickling down the top of shoe covers, I found that wearing a pair of reflective ankle straps just at the top of the shoe covers, while improving your visibility, also helps stops water entering.

I dont have over shoes. One tip clingfilm no to much bother. Sandwich bags over feet waterproof your feet. Chuck them away after less hassle than messing around with cling film. Same goes for the lights elastic band or food bag tie job done.
