I have no idea, I am only going by the script of a play we did at school over three decades ago. The play was a bit 'hippy trippy' though so the idea could have come from anywhere.
But if i have my facts right(please forgive me if its wrong) Did'nt God banish Lucifer too??????

I seem to recall that Russell T. Davies (back when he made good telly) made a show called the Second Coming. The climax of the show kind of follows some of the ideas from this thread. Just in case you haven't seen it and don't want it spoiled I've obscured the text below. Highlight to read...
The Son of God commits suicide by eating rat poison. The insinuation is that his suicide reverberates through destroying God and Heaven and Hell too, leaving just life on earth.
If you haven't seen it, I do recommend it. RTD is an atheist, and sometimes can be a bit heavy handed with his views, especially in some of the Torchwood stuff. However this was a fairly well rounded drama leaving much of the answers as to whether or not the actions of the characters are right or wrong up to the audience.

That's my point,If god was(hopefully is,but i don't care) so forgiving...........WHAT mistake did Satan And Lucifer do that God had to banish them,eh,Its not like Humans are very innocent(forgive me if you're innocent,none of this is directed to you)...........and we keep saying damn you,damn it and damn this and that,we send them to hell,What???????
Again,you've never come across Satan punishing innocent people.....only bad people are sent to hell,right??????
Just like detention you see,You hate it,you will definately hate the person whose keeping you ther but truth is hes not bad at all,Satan a guy whose stuck in hell taking care of the bad people saving good people....................and believe me i've watched Discovery one too many times to know that if some stupid demons,spirits,voodoo and whatnot is bothering them ..................ITS NOT MR.SATAN AT THE DOOR.................better luck next time.
Oh yes Lucifer aka Satan decided to take the throne...............nobody does that unless something has gone wrong with the ruler(we study Civics,we do) or the guys just got a mental disorder.......which in this case is not possible because they were angels.
It's all just made up remember, so picking holes in the logic of the whole idea is just as pointless as picking holes in the story of Snow White - except of course it's fun to see the real committed believers contort the story even further to justify their position.
