Nah ... most beautiful was the Cannondale Super Six they tested on The Gadget Show!

I've never seen that Gadget Show clip but I've got a story to tell you about it....

I went out for a ride from Glossop. Plan was to go up Holme Moss, turn around at the top and the ride home again. Got to the bottom of Holme Moss and there was a "Road Closed" sign and a TV van. I had a chat with the guy in the van and he said that they were filming something but I would probably be OK on my bike. So I rode to the top. Doing so I saw a couple of cyclists in the layby on the left with a car but thought they had the same idea as me, nice ride on closed roads.
Got to the top, turned round and shot off back towards Glossop. Got to the steep fast bit........only to find a car right in the middle of the road with a TV camera on a boom hanging out the side. And those two guys in the clip on either side. Shaaaaaaat myself, slammed the anchors on and just managed to slide between the car and the cyclists doing about 30mph. Sorry Gadget Show :shy:

FWIW the ebike looks cool

That would be the day - they did say that they got a road closure for filming and I had wondered why!

It seems like a slightly frivolous reason to close a main road, but I suppose it all helps to attract tourists to LotSW country.

PS What, you don't ride down to Holmfirth and turn back from there so you take in both sides of Holme Moss? :whistle:

(I will probably do the double climb one day to be able to climb from the south without having to ride excessively busy Woodhead Pass - I have never done Holme Moss from that direction.)

Other than just descending S off Holme Moss, turning around and then going back up again (which sounds demoralising) the best way for you to do the S ascent is either;
1) Get to Glossop (a long way I know) then left at the lights in the middle of town - that road eventually comes out onto the Woodhead 1/2 mile W of the Holme Moss t/off so you minimise time on the Woodhead
2) Come over via Dunford Bridge. You get onto the Woodhead a couple of miles E of the Holme Moss t/off but it is all downhill to it so pretty fast

The S ascent is easier than the N. Mainly because the prevailing wind is helping and also because the steep section is in the first half of the climb, not the second half unlike the N ascent

I'm not keen on routes to Glossop other than via Holme Moss.

D'oh - I never thought of doing (2)! I like the Dunford Bridge area but I have always done Holme Moss, a slow ascent of Woodhead in traffic, then the turn off. It would be much nicer descending at the same speed as the HGVs rather than having them thundering past on the climb! That's one I will definitely aim to put into a forum ride.

Yes it is an E bike :becool:

I know the laws regarding E-bikes in the UK...outright performance wasn't really the point. I just liked the styling.
If I want real performance, I would not go looking at E- bike power for this (with current tech)
