Someone i know well was telling me that 5 of them have booked said canal boat for a week, later this month.
Apparently one guy is 6'4" and bulky.
I aways fancied a week if sunshine was guaranteed but a week in November doesn't appeal.
I have this picture in mind.......its hissing down and they have to decide who is on the tiller......no thank you.

I think its a great idea for a couple, but not for 5 people in an enclosed space.
Jannie and I could go for walks, read, do jigsaws and lego. Eat in country pubs, visit country churches and villages.

Plus you miss all the summer crowds and waterway yobbos and its cheaper.

Whats not to like?

Being cold and wet at the helm or operating the locks.

Could be wet, but that can be said for any time of the year. Crank up the wood burner and you're off. Stop off at a pub for lunch, or tea. There is no rush but I'd personally have 'something' to do each day. I suspect they will have a list of moorings to stay at and details of amenities nearby.

Good waterproof (many barges do have covers over the tiller's end).

November can be lovely and I have waterproofs. As for 5 people. I addressed that.

We rode round the canals in Belgium Nov last year. Bloomin excellent. Lots of wildlife migrating, fab autumn colours, mugs of hot chocolate. Yeah. Just easier on a boat.

I considered it once, but it's eye-wateringly expensive unless you have enough bods to fill all the berths. For one, it's just totally out of the question.
