I'm after some opinions and suggestions if pos please.
It's my 25th wedding anniversary this year, 2nd of May, and we're thinking it'd be nice for us to have a short break, maybe from the Sunday to the Wednesday. We really don't mind where we go and at the same time have no idea where we should consider going. We haven't got a bottomless pit of money I'm thinking around 700ish, we don't want the journey time to be too long so that we're losing lots of holiday time, we don't mind UK or Europe, we don't mind board basis or even self catering. We both like looking at things, not necessarily high brow cultural, but neither of us are lie round the pool all day types. One big consideration is that my wife is a coeliac, so (and I'm stereotyping here but I hope you get the point) if Rome was all pasta and pizza it's not really going to be suitable. The only other given is that if we fly it'd be from Cardiff or Bristol.
So, I'd love to hear all experiences and recommendations and suggestions of where to go or not to go, because I'm looking at everything but I could do with having a clue where to start.

Wow, thank you all for such speedy replies!
How did you go about things? Booking a package, booking separately? Any language problems?

Northumberland is a fantastic place if you fancy staying in the UK - we've been several times in May and it's been glorious. Try around Beadnell, Seahouses or Bamburgh. Lots of good places to eat (try the Joiners Arms in High Newton by the Sea, or the Craster Arms in Beadnell), there are castles everywhere to explore and some of the best beaches in the world.

Where are you going then?
Seriously thank you all for the info so far.
I can start to do some proper searching, Berlin I hadn't looked at at all nor had I looked at (or even heard of) airbnb. I had started by looking at things like Amsterdam, Dublin, Edinburgh, Barcelona, but was getting all befuddled with choices of places I had no experience of. So.....now I'm getting some great suggestions from people that have real experience and that's invaluable. Thank you all again.
