So idiotd chops here has gone and done his ACL in the right knee playing football. Not had MRI scan yet but doc reckons will need surgery and says I could cycle so long as I feel ok to do so. Has anyone else got experience of this and if so were you on on the bike despite the injury?

@PK99 :okay:

I’d say if clipped in and cautious unclipping, I’d think cycling is less likely to further damage an unstable ACL deficient knee than any weight bearing activity

Have you seen an orthopaedic surgeon to discuss this with? Assume the ‘doc’ quoted is a GP not specialist?

Thanks for the tag @vickster

I now have triple ACL experince. Mine 3 years ago. D2 2 years ago and Mrs PK is 6 weeks post op.

I cycled up Ventoux between snap and op. BUT, that was after 6 months of intensive physio and PT guided re and prehab in the gym. Snap in Feb. Ventoux in Sept. Op in October

I'd strongly advise against cycling until you have had MRI and Othropod's advice. It may be a simple ACL tear, as in my case. Or as in my wife's a more complex meniscus tear as well. She was fine and fully mobile for two weeks then put on jeans for the first time and wiggled in, disturbed the meniscus and was in significant pain and hobbling for 4 week waiting for the op.

Before you ask Vickster. Yes it was a family hat trick for MrA!

It happened on Tuesday, went to A n E who xrayed it and said no broken bones but need MRI. Had to see GP to get referred. She was the one who said if it feels safe then cycling is fine. Waiting for MRI appt then will know extent of damage.

I'm a year post op, did both my ACL and meniscus, I was actively encouraged to cycle during the 3 month wait for my op, was part of my prehab.
