I think the Vatican was involved in dodgy stuff in Yugoslavia during the Second World War.

To be fair, a number of people were involved in dodgy stuff:

I didn’t want to say they were involved in war crimes without any evidence but clearly that puts a different picture on things.😱

I think it's more that nobody noticed, and they can't be bothered to remove them from a rather obscure location; I only know about it because I'm a nerd.

They are apparently in Italy, by the way, not the Vatican itself; also the N*zis stole most of their symbols anyway, so you could argue they represent something else; it's just that Mussolini had the bridge built so...

To be honest I know this stuff but I’m slightly weary of saying what might deemed political.
I remember a friend of mine who was in to European politics saying that the Italian communist party would be considered too right wing to be accepted to be part of the British labour party.

I know it's not the same, but I recently noticed this on the wall of the Bishop's residence in Rottenburg:

"In this place, on the 23rd of July 1938 The National Socialists stormed the living quarters of Dr. Johannes Baptista Sproll,
the seventh Bishop of Rottenburg.
In the same year the NS State banished the Bishop into Exile"​

I have yet to find out what he did, but they were clearly p*ss*d off about it, so it must have been good.

There were people who stood up to the regime; not enough, but they were there.
