In a similar vein, as a very small boy I really puzzled over how anyone in Switerland ever played football. I imagined every time the ball went off the pitch the ball would roll away down the mountain.

It didn’t get going to the Romans embraced it. The first of which Saul/ Paul who was a Jew but a Roman citizen and he pushed for gentiles to be allowed to join. The there old Constantine who adopted as the religion of the Roman Empire.
They also came up with heated swimming pools and underfloor heating.
The thing that hasn’t seemed to remained popular is the fermented fish paste.🤮

I once cycled past a park on the border between Lörrach (Germany) and Basel (Switzerland): every time the kids on one team scored a goal they had to run into Switzerland to get the ball back.
