Magpies have memories and can recognize individual animals. My neighbour's cat killed a magpie a few weeks ago and several of them mobbed it. One magpie is still doing it. Presumably the dead one was his/her mate.

I wan't imagining it. Magpies are members of the crow family and they can hold grudges for generations.

Is it only the females that hold grudges through generations, even remembering the specific dates while the males say "ahh sod it, let's move on".
