Yes, most countries default to the rear brake being on the side you will still have a hand on the bars when signalling to turn across traffic.

In this respect it is us (UK) that are the minority.

However motorcycle brakes don’t move hand anywhere and right hand is front brake, so I maintain that we’re correct.

Yes, I've been repairing bikes for several years in Germany and I still have to think carefully when I set brakes up.

Rebel that I am, I set my transport bike up in the British way I.e. Illegally. Mwahahahaaaa.

I've posted this before but it's worth another airing,

A mate got stopped on his motorbike can't remember what for but probably a noisy (aftermarket) exhaust. Whilst examining the rest of the bike (Tyres etc.) one of the coppers said to his mate "Ineffective rear brake" whilst deftly operating the clutch lever.

Still working on the exam. Apparently it's not a legal requirement to have the front brake on the left: only that the two brakes are independent of each other.

And I thought I was being a cool rebel. Poo.

I also discovered that while there is no rule saying which side the brake should be, there is a law speciically exempting trolleys and sledges from the need to carry two independent braking systems.
