All recognised marathon routes are measured using a 'Jones counter'. Invented in 1971, not surprisingly by a guy called Jones.
He loved the sport and was frustrated by inaccurate measurements so he set about creating said counter.
Once it was perfected he gifted it to the sports federation and made no profit from it.
GPS gizmos are considered inaccurate as they are affected by certain things eg high buildings.

That warms my heart! (Partly because so few people realise that GPS isn't designed for distance measurement - hence the P which is not a D!!!) EDIT: and it definitely isn't designed for measuring the climbing figure on your ride!

Does Pinocchio put pistachios on his bruschetta?
Is that a euphemism?
That would be the pronunciation in ecclesiastical Latin (the same rule still applies in modern Italian).

However, in classical Latin (used by Cicero) it would have been a hard k sound, so Kikero.
I remember seeing this ages ago, but its still impressive when he gets to speak.
Ok, it's a set up, even the tutor says 'Cicero' with an 's' at first, but still, how many times do you hear Latin like that?

I knew that as one of my acquaintances was an official course measurer for foot races which he measured ( three times ) on his bicycle with a Jones counter. There's sometimes a " Taxi Mile" or similar on a local road in larger towns / cities for meter calibration.

According to the article the cyclist doing the measurement has to hug the curb in order to ensure the actual distance cannot be less than the distance he/they agree on.

Puzzle game procrastinator!
I just discovered that...
  1. My TV has a Rakuten app.
  2. The remote control has a dedicated Rakuten button.
  3. The picture quality that the Rakuten app gives is poor.
  4. I can't stand the ads that I would have to put up with on top of that crap Rakuten picture quality.
  5. Having realised that I had ignored the second row of app buttons for over 4 years, I have now also discovered Disney+ and FreeviewPlay buttons on the remote. I won't be using them either!
