In August I'll be going down that London to watch a concert at the O2 with my lad.

We have a hotel booked in Newham and will be using public transport to and from the O2.

From what I've seen it looks as if is going to be a combination of tube and DLR, with about a mile walk to the hotel after that.

As an alternative would it be easy to come straight out of the O2 and get a cab, and if so how much would I expect to pay?

Is it likely to be a late concert? If not there's the cable car across the river to pick up the DLR.

I would only get a cab as a last resort. It'll be stuck in the traffic trying to get through Blackwall Tunnel (assuming it's open that weekend) after the concert.

Thanks Martin, it's Iron Maiden on a Saturday night so I don't expect to be out of there before about eleven.

No engineering work that weekend, thankfully. After Metallica in '09 I missed my train thanks to the Jubilee Line being out & alternatives failing miserably- I've taken a bike every time I've been there since, works much better (still missed the train after Eddie Izzard the other week..but I had the bike to get me home from Southampton Airport, so that worked out well). Cab will be horrendously expensive I should imagine, and the traffic getting out of there is dreadful.

Edit: cross-post with Brains, so removed the duplicated bits.

Not long to go now and I've had another idea.

I'm very tempted to park up at Canning Town tube and get the tube one stop to north Greenwich.

Does anyone on here know the Canning Town area, and if so do you have any advice on where to park around there?

Parking at Canning Town is a bit risky. Getting the tube to the next stop West Ham ( nowhere near the football ground ) might be the better option, most of the permit parking bays are ok at weekends. Failing that carry on to Stratford and get a cab from there. Good luck and enjoy!
