My "test" is the Isle of Wight Randonnee, I try and do this each year (although I failed this year due to family illness) since I was mid 40's

Not interested in the time, so long as I get a pub lunch and a badge and certificate I am happy

I'm with @ScotiaLass, keep your inner teenager! I am more adventurous and more aware of keeping fit and enjoying myself now than I was then. I took up skiing at 46 and can now happily take on the Face Olympique black run on my own, which is something that I never, ever thought I would do. I'm not a fast or racing cyclist and I believe in pleasure more than I believe in competition, and I also believe in making the most of it while you've got it! I'm with @rich p on the outdoor swimming too - alas I don't live by the sea but I have a lake nearby that I was in only the other day. Briefly, to be fair, since it was chuffin freezin, but the screams were part of the fun...

Bigger, fitter, faster, stronger than any youngster.
PS I may have fibbed about being faster.

Don't you just hate it when you are bimbling along in a strange area, and some aged local speeds past?

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
As everyone else says, age is just a number. I've known plenty of 30 year old men and women who acted and dressed as if they were 60. I dont feel any different now than when I was 30., I don't think any different either and why should I?

do everything you want, make the most of your good health, and laugh as much as you can, and don't be focused on how old you are.

posted this before but..

I cycle fast. Especially on the way home. Not bragging, but very few cyclists overtake me. On a long, slow hill on the way home (Ruckholt Road) I used to get burned by an old boy on a Peugeot. He was mid sixties I'd say, and he'd drop me mercilessly, his calves were like teak, I mean they looked like a burnished hard wood, solid monogamy. The sod did to me what I usually do to others, nary a glance, no acknowledgement at all, he just cruised past and I had no chance of catching. Once I spoke to him at the lights and the bugger wasn't even out of breath.

Then a few years ago I rode the Tourmalet, nearly killed me. The next day in Tarbes I went to a restaurant to load up on carbs and I boasted to the waitress that I'd just ridden the highest main road in Europe.

"Oh"

she said.

"My dad did that last year, he's 81".

French bastard.
