AirPods when cycling

For those of you who have AirPods and cycle, do you use AirPods when cycling?

The safety of cycling with earphones in is another discussion, I am just wondering if I am likely to lose them?? Is there a better alternative?

I have AirPods Pro. I would never consider them for cycling [even though they have the transparency mode]. They are not secure enough. I use aftershokz, and have done since they first came to market. Brilliant. Google them.

I also used the Aftershokz for one of my LEJoG training rides. Work well: can still hear things around you
Prefer pedalling without though. Maybe for training hours here & there

You can actually buy some clips that attach on to the air pods that fits around the ear. If they still fall out if you have these attached then you are doing something seriously wrong.

As for the main question. No, as i dont have or use an iphone. But I have a set of Mpow wireless flame SOLO headphones that i use which work great. They dont sit deep inside the ear canal like most in ear and sports headphones do so I can still hear everything around me as i ride.

I have used two different pair of Aftershokz in the past but the fitment can be really annoying and can get uncomfortable depending on your helmet and if you wear glasses. The two pairs i had didnt play nice with my KASK Mojito and having glasses on made them uncomfortable to wear so i just use them around the house now.

I did used to use a Bluetooth headphones receiver like one of these. connected to a mono earpiece that hooked around the ear similar to a security ear piece for a long long time but the device had been sitting on a shelf for too long and the battery wouldnt last an hour so hence the mpow headphones.

and its funny some people should comment about not cycling with headphones on for their own safety. Ive come across a lot more cyclists with no headphones on that only look in the direction they are going in and never shoulder check even when they need to pull out or turn a corner. They are probably more of a threat to me then most of the cars on the road. Most car drivers are quite well behaved but of course you do come across a twat every so often. if a driver is too busy tapping on their phone while their driving then they are probably going to hit you regardless if you have headphones on or off. Its like the argument about cyclists wearing high vis. If drivers are distracted. It doesnt matter if youre wearing high vis or not.

Having headphones on shouldnt inhibit the use of your neck so keep your head on a swivel.

Do as you wish but always shoulder check for your own safety and safety of others.

I use Airpods, but not when cycling, as I prefer to be ‘ear nude’ when cycling, for various reasons.
Many years ago, I used a digital music player, with wired earphones, which had clips going around the ear, and never came loose or fell off, so I consider this a more secure method for ear wear.
If I wanted to listen to something whilst cycling, I would risk losing my Airpods, so would look at a different solution.

If you prefer 'nude' ears there is always this solution:

I use a set of Sony WI-C310s they're comfortable and the battery lasts all day and the band and magnets on the buds helps keep it in place.

I like that in unfamiliar areas I can use voice instructions for navigation.

You know how annoying it is to come across pedestrians with headphones in, they don't hear your bell, they don't hear you politely ask to pass, then they shout at you for scaring them.... as bad if not worse on a bike.

If you must, you need some that won't bounce off down the road if they fall out. Lots of either left or right ear pods on ebay for some reason !

I have lots of hair, gets a bit tangled up if I have to brush it out of the way if it’s windy say (Clearly not an issue you have if that’s you in the avatar )
Worse still with a mask on
