As with @steverob it depends on what time the flights are and whether there are any deals on airport parking. There's a tipping point where we drive usually when we are able to get decent parking options and at least one flight is early/late in the day. We do take public transport, but it can take an hour to get the airport (Liverpool) vs around 25mins if we drive. Manchester is further away so usually drive and park when flying from there.

When my son was working as a self employed contractor overseas he kept an old VW Golf as an "airport car" as he travelled at all sorts times and a taxi costs in excess of £200 each way. Never had any problems with damage or interference.
Nowadays his employer pays for a taxi but has in the past supplied one way self drive hire cars.

Always use airport car park. Have to use shuttle bus when we go on holiday with other people but when we go on our own, we always park right next to the airport "fromt door" so never use the shuttle bus.

Have used valet a couple of times but just dont fancy it any more.

Have always taken the car and parked.

Sometimes in official on-airport parking, sometimes in official but off-airport parking sometimes in 3rd party off-airport, and a couple of time in the "hotel plus parking" type arrangement when we had an early morning flight.

We have found a few times recently that the "meet and greet" type of parking actually worked out hardly any more expensive than the regular type and have used that when it is cheap enough.

Don't worry about no car at home because we have always had two cars when we have been able to afford foreign trips, so there has still been one at home.

We have never lived close enough to the airport for taxi to really be a viable option, although we have moved since our last flight, and it would now be viable if flying from Cardiff (about 8 miles away).

For us it depends on a number of factors - cost of all options, length of holiday, which airport we're going to and what time we're flying out (or arriving home).
Those considerations will apply to most, if not all, people.

If you're taxying or using public transport, the cost is independent of the length of your holiday, whereas parking costs obviously depend on how long you're away for.

So it's a trade-off, which will be different for everybody.

A friend of ours regularly flies between Gatwick and Inverness. She drives up to Gatwick and has for many years been parking in the driveway of a bungalow near the airport. There's a fair few who supplement their pension by doing the same thing. The chap drops her off at the airport and then parks her car on his drive. She lets him know the date of her return and texts him when her flight has landed, he then comes and collects her. I'm not sure of the cost, but she's been doing this for quite a few years now.

It's been so long since I flew I can't remember !

Depending on the airport and time of flight - we have got the train and bus there. Definitely the cheapest and almost the easiest if it's just a weekend away.
