Why do you use a camera in a car? Understand it racing on a track but out and about?

It's apparently a common thing in Russia where crash for cash accidents are common. We got a lot of great shots of the Meteorite coming in and exploding over Russia last year from dashboard cameras.

The problem with looking for confrontation is that you will inevitably meet a nutter looking for the same, with GBH added. While the vast majority of people you antagonise will threaten but not resort to real violence there is a small but still significant number of people out there who thrive on 'fighting'. This fight usually consists of a sudden attack on an unsuspecting victim where the chance to fight back is low. Sitting on a bike you are really vulnerable even if they don't choose to use a motor vehicle as their weapon. once knocked over, and straddling a bike that's all too easy, they are unlikely to let you get back up before continuing the assault.

Why is it that when a video or thread pops up about a cyclist getting shouted at or threatened, do people say "I would have hit him" when clearly it never happens?

Because they are sat in front of a screen, without emotion, making up a dream-like scenario about what they would do in that situation, after some top kung-fu moves, probably ending (in their minds) with a bloodied baddie and some fit woman expressing eternal gratitude.......................

I think the moral of that story is more about not just sitting on the bike the whole time like a nonce.

I get a few like that and respond to shouts out of the window with a broad smile and a cheery wave. Confuses them no end!

For pretty much the same reasons as you have one on a bike - to protect yourself against bell ends and chancers in other vehicles.

Close passing, tailgating, brake testing, general SMIDSY isn't just applicable when you're on a bike, it happens just as much when you're driving a car.

I have definately found this is true. However, I seem to get more idiots when I am driving than when I am cycling. It doesnt make sense in my mind.
