I am looking at getting an allez triple 09 model to upgrade from my carreara virtuoso. I can get one in "as new" condition for 350gbp. The previous owner is someone local that cannot ride it anymore and is looking at getting rid. Do you think this is a good price?

Hiya Fossala...
I guess £350 sounds a fair price if the bike is 'as new'. But thats an easy description for a seller to give, does the condition match the description ?
I'd be looking carefully at the transmission, looking for wear and tear.
I privately sold a 4 year old 9 speed Bianchi Via Nirone for £250...its condition was fair, with the usual wear to the transmission. Part of me felt i didnt get enough, part of me felt its only worth what someone was prepared to pay...try and work him down on price a bit perhaps.

Give the bike a good once over, preferably ride it, make sure the gears work ok, adjust the seatpost height, make sure its not siezed, if it goes well, looks ok, you're happy its in good condition,...find a price you're both happy with...and buy it.

As a rough guide I would work to 50% initial drop in the first year less a further 10% per year of that years value (not 10% of the purchase price).

So that is £250 off in the first year, £25 the next year and call it another £25 the year after. So I reckon about £200 would be about right obviously dependant on condition.

Is the bike a standard Allez or is the Sport or Elite or Comp version? At £500 new I am guessing it is the standard model.

I am not sure lower end bikes depreciate that much, bit like top end cars lose value much quicker than budget hatchbacks. If you want the bike, it fits you and it doesn't need lots spending on it, maybe offer £275-300? Or you could get a new one from Decathlon for £300 (a bit of an upgrade from the Carrera). What groupset does it have - you'll want at least Sora and preferably Tiagra (I am assuming the Carrera has 2300?)

Bought it for 300. It rides so smoothly. It came with new tires and tool bag. I seriously cannot see any marks. It even has original stickers on it without a mark.
