An alternative for wider use of a Boardman

18 months ago my son took the plunge and got himself a Boardman Hybrid for his commute on the CTW scheme. Over that time he has found it great for his road commute but is unhappy when wanting to ride some of our local cycle tracks and when has the odd urge to go off road. Thoughts please on a bit of adaption IRO a change of tyres and possibly gearing, or would he be better to swap it for something more suited to like a Carrera or ???

Though folks may not all agree, that bike would be fine on light cycle trail with eg Schwalbe smart Sam at 32mm.

I use Schwalbe Marathon+ 35mm ... My commute is a mix of road and some roughish trails but the bike now takes everything I throw it at.

Yep, stick some 32/35mm knobblies on it and you've got an instant cross bike.
