Well thanks for all the replies.

It wasn't me who painted it. It was in fact Sam.

I don't for one minute think it is a seminal work of art. On the other hand for a water colour painted by someone who has never in her life before even picked up a paint brush, I for one think it is a fair effort. I doubt she will go on to become any kind of artist or even an enthusiastic amateur but remember 'shite' it may be, in your opinion, but I'll lay a pound to a penny every great artist turned out naive, and less than perfect works not only when they first started but also all through their careers.
The fact that the perspective isn't perfect and the hut roof is not formed means nothing. Any drawing/painting, unless it's meant to be a true depiction, is just an impression. You could I suppose draw something that was techincally perfect in every single respect, but why bother? Just take a photograph.

It was done on a rainy bank holiday afternoon, in a caravan in the Dales using a cheap set of paints and brushes bought in a service station. Given that I think it's OK.

It isn't great art. But does it have to be ? I like it anyway.

However, I have no idea what the OP was even thinking by posting the image in the first place.

Looks nice from here and would look fine in our seaside themed spare room.

I am totally useless at art, it is said by the family that I cannot even draw the curtains.

Such a word to choose!

Oscar Wilde: "The only excuse for making a useless thing is that one admires it intensely. All art is quite useless"

(he meant, if it has a use, then it isn't art ... it's a craft or engineering project or something, but he deliberately phrased provocatively, so I think you should celebrate your "uselessness" as meaning you are an artist.)

I liked it.... In the eye of the beholder, don't know how old Sam is but honestly I bet she really enjoyed it and the end product and that's what matters.

Maybe it might lead on to something. My eldest loved art from about four and to this day will.spend a few hour drawing or painting for fun.

My avatar over there was an hour sketching my bike for fun.

Get her a sketchpad and decent water colour pencils.

My daughter spent her first five weeks paper money on pencils, you think bike parts are expemsive!!

I was once one of the directors of a small gallery. Some of the stuff we were proudly offered and expected to display was truly horrendous and the OP’s offering while a bit naive would be acceptable to many people. Some took great offence at being very politely refused.

The local art society's annual exhibition. Nuff said.

On the other hand, there's something about whiling away time puttering with paints and paper...

I quite like naive art , my Dad used to paint - draw people as he saw them , the people however were not always to happy with the finished article ! , I seem to remember Barbera Hepworth befriending an old Sailor who spent his last days painting seascapes , I've trend to find some of his work on google but can't , there's a place for everything , if these paintings make some people smile , well that's good ,
