An increase in traffic - or not?

As soon as we are allowed to socialise, Wednesday night hooligan rides with buddies will re-start. We usually have the countryside pretty much to ourselves anyway at night.

My daily commute by car.
Roads were empty a few weeks ago.
Now it seems to be a little busier but not so much cars. Van's and hgvs
In normal times it's quite busy with congestion at all roundabouts..now its nearly always clear..it's lovely to be honest.

Its actually busier when I cycle due to people walking and cycling..which is also nice to see

Sitting outside the flat a couple of weeks back, one could generally hear almost zero traffic noise, with actual zero traffic noise for long spells. Much increased now. More people about. Saw what looked like a group ride at Yelverton last week.
The lockdown is increasingly being ignored here, and I wonder if it's because the far South West has been seen as having "got away with it" in CV19 terms...

I feel the traffic levels are varying from day to day and what we now might see as busy or increasing is actually very quiet by comparison to the norm. I haven't seen a continuous increase but there have been days when I've thought "hmmm busy today" this is usually if I'm near town or cycling over the M6. Overall for my area I don't think there is an increase in traffic just the odd busy spot from time to time.

All the usual idiots are still driving round. On Saturday I was passed by someone driving, I think, a Porsche. He was so close and fast I actually felt the wind turbulence and it made me wobble!

No scientific evidence again today, but I was out for a 40 mile ride this morning and it seemed as if the lockdown had been lifted, judging by the amount of traffic on the road.
Just goes to show, if there's so much as a whisper that the rules on lockdown might be relaxed in any way, people will take that as a green light to do what they like. So, Boris, or Nicola in our case - either have a lockdown and get the Police to do something in the way of enforcing it, or let us get back to something like a normal life. Too many mixed messages out there!

The exact time you assess traffic on a road can have an impact on vehicle numbers.
A1M, Pboro to Alconbury, I drive every workday. Since lockdown, traffics dripped by 75%, maybe more.
Last Monday, I thought, jeez, traffic is running at maybe 30 to 40% of normal, noticeably more cars.
A colleague arrived 5 mins after me, same stretch of road...he remarked how quiet it was.
And that's how it often is, I see loads of traffic, 5 mins sooner or later, my colleague sees the opposite, ot vice versa

Hearing complaints from fellow cyclists now who were out this morning and noticed an increase in the amount of obvious groups of cyclists on the road. I only saw one group (of 4 roadies, suspiciously close in age and a bit old for all being from one house!). Some folk just won't listen .

It seems to be national leisure motorcycling day today, on a 7 mile ride I saw around 30 motorbikes and now I'm home I'm hearing one giving it the beans every few minutes. I think people have clearly just given up on the stay at home message.
