If it was under warranty they'd have to replace it free anyway. I was just pointing out that contrary to popular belief it is vanishingly easy to replace the battery.

But I like to have a spare battery with me if I am out on the road for a few days and that isnt an option if I have to void the waranty just to swap the battery out it is ridiculous.

I'd still buy another Android phone. I just wouldn't get an HTC one.

The ones you get here are all unlocked, though, so you don't get the awful network crippling like you do on the tied UK ones. Even with that, HTC still manage to screw things up with each release of Android. Samsung seems to be much better in that respect and I've heard good things about the technical support. HTC support is utterly woeful.

If you get the phone from carphonewarehouse it will always be unlocked as all their phones are, I bought mine from Argos and got it unlocked as it was on offer so considerably cheaper than anywhere else even after paying for it to be unlocked.

Yes I agree HTC are arses, when I wanted an HTC case they were on special offer on their website but I couldnt buy it online because the PayPal payment portal they had setup didnt work, so I has to resort to spending half and hour on the phone trying to buy the case, I managed to get through to someone who had a brain eventually

I have tried the Samsung Galaxy and I have to say that the Samsung felt very cheap and plastic compared to the Wildfire which is quite well built and solid, but in general I have nothing against Samsung products in fact I sell loads of samsung laptops every year and they are excellent products and I love my Samsung LED TV

I'm probably getting a Wildfire S for my wife's birthday, as she barely uses any advanced stuff and it's really cheap now. It's amazing that you can get a smart phone for that much nowadays. And it's nice to get the recommendation!

The only downsides I find with Wildfire is that it cant play iplayer because it uses a lite version of flash that iplayer doesnt support, I would also like a slightly bigger screen but if it had a bigger screen then the battery life would not be as good as it is so I can live with the downsides, I was going to the S version but when I got mine they were much more expensive then.

I recently tried the Blackberry 9860 which is a superb phone, I have never used a phone that is so nice to use and has such a smooth interface, unfortunately had to return it as the battery life is awful it was lasting 8 hours per charge, my 9700 lasts 1-2 days, which is a shame because in all other respects it was a fantastic phone to use.

GMail is simply an email system that is part of Google.

Can be used in two ways, firstly keep it entirely on the web and access as and when you want to, or secondly it will synchronise with any of the Email software packages and then download to your computer automatically.

As a "bonus" you also get access to a calender, document storage and other features that allow you to access stuff whilst away from your computer.

Ah right, thank you. Being new to smart phones Im still learning, that makes it easy for me to understand:thumbsup:

Battery life was/is an issue with smart phones Iv learned. My particular phone the desire s is now lasting 4 ish days but still with 20 or 30% left, I have bluetooth turned on all day at work and talk several times a day, and browse for about ten minutes a couple of times too. I tried a battery recalibration which seemed to work, and only turn on mobile network and wifi when I want to use it. As it stands its lasting longer than my text and call only phone did, which I had to recharge every two days to make sure there was enough charge in case of an important call. The screen size is great for me, and everything is smooth and clear, only issue for me is the speaker when on loudspeaker, it seems a little crackly sometimes, but is still better than my last phone. There is lots I still dont know how to use on it, but Im getting there.^_^

I have been looking at the Desire HD and the Sensation recently but I just dont know if the battery life would be good enough as at the moment I can use the Wildire as much as I want without any worries but I would like the bigger screen or I may just upgrade to the Wildfire S ........... decisions decisions what to do

My wife has the wildfire, and the battery lasts her all week, she rarely browses on it but loves it anyway. I was impressed with it too, especailly as it costs a lot less than mine.

You can get a new Li-Ion shuffle battery and the tool you need to install it for less than £4 from Amazon!

Are they the 'easy explode' brand then?

Just downloaded an app, a bar scanner that also scans the square patterns in magazines, and it takes you straight to a website. very cool.

I imagine that there are really half a dozen different Desire HD's by now.

As in choice of ROM's.

They stopped sending Android updates to my phone.. It's too old! Contract runs out soon, may be getting an upgrade with the latest version.
