Well there's changing the whole ROM for a start. If you're an Android user, there Cyanogen Mod, MIUI et al.
Oh right, is any of that in English? I don't have a clue what any of that means. Does it help you make calls and does it make any difference to your average Joe using his/her phone?

I think it boils down the the fact that if you are happy using a device that has everything set up for you and fixed ways of doing stuff then fine buy an Apple product and pay the premium. But if you like to be abe to change the way a product works to suit yourself and work the way YOU want to work and, more importantly in this climate, you would like to keep more of your money then dont buy an Apple product.

You have to admire Apple though, just look at their laptops they can sell a device that is hardware wise the same as most other laptops but charge over twice the price for it and have people queuing up all night to buy it I take my hat off to them.

Which was my point about the iPhone being a fantastic phone for the Average Joe's, who are happy with the way that Apple ship them.
Fair enoughski, although I still don't have a clue what any of the things martint235 mentions are:wacko:
Like I said back in post 27 though, each to their own;)

Saying that Apple stuff works well for people who want stuff to work the way that Apple wants it to work is not necessarily a criticism. My son loves his iPhone 4 and wouldn't have anything Android. We don't share this opinion, though.

I havnt used Gmail yet, Im not sure what it is?

GMail is simply an email system that is part of Google.

Can be used in two ways, firstly keep it entirely on the web and access as and when you want to, or secondly it will synchronise with any of the Email software packages and then download to your computer automatically.

As a "bonus" you also get access to a calender, document storage and other features that allow you to access stuff whilst away from your computer.

How have you changed the way your phone works?

I have installed a different keyboard because I couldnt get on with the on screen keyboard that came with android :addict: , changed the lock screen for a better one, changed the mail and calander programs for better ones, installed custom screen icons to track some shares I am interested directly on the home screen, installed a couple of custom screen widgets to put emails and texts directly onto the home screen, I havent changed the ROM yet because this android phone is only my personal phone and I use my blackberry most of the time so I havent had the time also I dont mind the HTC layout but I will change it at some point.

The other thing I also like is I can just send music & pictures to and from from my other devices, or even other peoples devices via bluetooth with just a couple of clicks.

I was messing about with it last night and I have set up a program which enables me to download GPS gpx files and show them on googlemaps so it has now also replaced my GPS. and also I have installed an open source geocaching program (electronic treasure hunting program) with directions, compass and logging and it also links straight to the geocaching website in realtime.

So I quite like my android phone, everytime I think of something I would like to do, or something I dont like that I would like to change, someone seems to have written a program to do it, and more often than not it is free, and because there is no apple saying you cant do it people do it  and it was cheap which is also good.

Oh yes and then theres the battery life like. Because I have an HTC Wildfire and the screen is smaller than a lot of smartphones, but still big enough for the internet etc, the battery lasts for ages. I can get 3 or 4 days out of it with light use. Yesterday I was messing about with GPS programs most of the evening so the GPS was switched on most of the time which can eat batteries and the battery indicator barely even moved.

Oh, and I've got a spare battery for my HTC Desire. Not that I need it more than once every six months, but it's nice to be able to carry a spare which I can change in 30 seconds.

There is little profit in spare batteries.

I don't know what the phones cost but I was quoted £81 for Apple to replace the battery in the iPod shuffle.

You can get a new Li-Ion shuffle battery and the tool you need to install it for less than £4 from Amazon!

But the fact is you shouldnt need a "tool" and as most Apple users buy an Apple product for ease of use because they are not technically minded it simply doesnt make any sense. Any product that needs a battery, particularly ones that cost what Apple products cost, should have an easily replaceable battery.
