Number one in what way? Most sales? Just because it's got most sales (because most other smart phones on the market are Android) that doesnt mean that is the better software / operating system. Android has most sales because it has been put on the 'more affordable' market placed aimed at youngsters for example that want to go on FB etc, young non professional people etc. Android phones end up that on the second hand market loose a lot of value unlike Iphone who retain their value.
It's a bit like having a Ford Fiesta (best selling) against a BMW Mini, less sales but more built quality, unique in the way it's been branded and developed.

I was once contemplating leaving Apple for Android but after a lot of research and asking a lot of questions to shop managers, developers, techy people I decided to stay with Apple and never looked back, infact I never heard someone who owned and Iphone wanting to switch. But I remember reading on this thread of Smokeysmoo who switched to Android from Iphone. Sang Praises to Android, then after 10 days updated the thread saying that they couldnt get along and switched back to Iphone again!

FIGHT!!!! The only way to go really is for the IT crowd to put their hands up. We (he says newly back in the fold) are apparently experts, so how many IT professionals use Apple over Android?

Whilst the highest price phone available badge is worn by many with pride 3 times as many are tight fisted or more sane(you choose) and buy an Android.

That's a bit of a generalization. Whilst the Android platform can run on some of the cheapest smartphone devices (which are mostly aimed at teens, FB users, etc) it can also run on some of the most expensive devices, which will easily rival the iPhone in most if not all aspects.

If you have had a bad experience with Android in the past, maybe you have just not found the right Android device for you? There are lots out there!

And that is why android is a very successful OS. They appear on many smartphones made by many different companies. Where as iOS only appears on apple devices.

My brother got an i-phone a couple of years ago. He can't blue tooth with my Nokia. I got N8 in March. Still the best camera 12Mp with best lens. Free sports tracker. Plenty of other free apps (I am from Yorkshire after all). Accessed my normal e-mails in Greece last summer. Nokia maps to navigate free for life, used in hire car. Nokia maps seem better than my Tom Tom. I use Drop Box for work and can access this from my Nokia. I find Symbian no problem though it seems not that fashionable among most IT boffs.

I have just got a Samsung Galaxy Ace and disappointed. Connecting to the Internet is a No No here, as it's soooooooo expensive. Can't even put your own ringtones on it.

Im sorry but IMO noway the Fiesta has the quality built of a Mini...

I have not had bad experiences with Androids but I'm happy with my Iphone so there is no need for me to fix what's not broken

of all the 'technical' people I spoke to and work with, know personally all of them have Iphones. The thing is, if you have always had Android you just dont know what you are missing ^_^

I wouldn't buy a HTC Android phone, as having spoken to people who work in phone shops, these have the second highest return rates amongst smart phones

I don't think that's quite fair, as essentially you're comparing a whole range of HTCs against an iPhone. Some HTCs are clearly aimed at the cheaper end of the market, where others are higher quality. I say this having a Desire Z myself, and Mr SHK has recently got an HTC (smaller, cheaper). The build quality on his is clearly cheaper than on mine, including such things as the screen res and how plasticky his feels. I would certainly not swap my HTC for an iPhone, but if my only experience of HTC was Mr SHKs I would probably be envious of iPhones.

No I was comparing the HTC Sensation to the Samsung Galaxy at the time and several shops pretty much said "Don't touch the sensation with a barge pole"

For some reason HTC's current business model is to release phones every two weeks or so. They would probably do better if they spent time and effort on developing the new handsets so that quality and ease of use increases each time. For example, in current reviews, the HTC Desire is still finishing top or near top because very few of the phones since have actually bettered it.

All the HTC Sensation has is better sound from what I can see.

I had the HTC G1 for two years, then the Desire S. No problems ever with either. In that time my wife's Galaxy S has been back for warranty repair three times. That's merely anecdata and I don't claim it as evidence of anything particular, but the day I have to depend on the sales assistant in a mobile phone shop for buying advice is the day I sign up for elective frontal lobe surgery

Oh, speaking as a techie, I know exactly what I'm missing by not having an iphone: I'm missing a phone that I have to jailbreak to get anything useful done, a developer platform that I have to pay for, an app approval process that takes something like three weeks and refuses apps on bizarre whim, and an operating system that I can't download and recompile myself. Woe is me
You think? What are you basing your opinion on, and how would you quantify it?
I am based on my ownership experience of both vehicles. I owed a 09 Mini Petrol and now own a 09 Fiesta, and I felt that the Mini was definitely a better vehicle in terms of built and driveability refinement. Of course this is just my opinion which I dont expect anyone to agree with.
