It's the time of year again that we have to make certain benefit selections at work for the coming year. I tried really hard to find something interesting about some of the possible selections like dental care, critical illness cover or buying or selling holidays etc. I'm not entirely sure how it happened, but I found my finger hovering over the cycle to work thing. We have a new provider who came in last year and clarified the whole process for me and spelled out exactly what it would cost me. The long and short of it is, I hit the button and made my selection so looks like another new bike for me in time for the sales sometime in January.:wahhey:

Mrs Slick is obviously delighted.:B):shy:

As it's for C2W, make sure it'll take mudguards and a rack for commuting ;)

You might find the dental and CI go well alongside C2W

Ha ha, turns out the bike you recommended last year fits that Bill perfectly, not sure yet how this new machine will slot in the stable.

The CI could have been useful this week due to them closing a major route putting all the maddies on my route so I ended up leaving the bike at home most of the week.

Yeah you did go for the perfect bike ;)

Cyclocross?

Or something lightweight for summer commutes when you don't need to carry much

Or you can I believe use the cash for upgrades on an existing bike - new groupset, wheels?

Funny, I've considered all of your suggestions. I'm just not sure which I like most.

Do you actually need any of it even if you save a few quid. Keep the cash and have a holiday instead...it's not like it's free

Truth is, no. I can't really explain it other than to tell you I just want it. I know it's not free, but it's a good option, 1K will cost a standard tax payer £570 which coupled with January sale prices always just gets my attention. I would also take a bike over a holiday, but I take your point.

Up to you. Happy shopping

My bargain 'C2W' purchases were sold after a year for less than I paid even with the tax saving, not so bargainous
(I am the queen of buying 'bargain' bikes that I buy, barely use, sell at a loss...now I must sort buying that Ti 'bargain' ;))

Ha ha, go for it. I have a bit of time to think about what I want to do, so I'll mull it all over before buying the shiniest one in the shop. ^_^

I'm not keen at the thought of selling at a loss and your right as a friend at work is addicted to buying them from Gumtree. There are some amazing bargains to be had that have either never or hardly turned a wheel. I'm just not convinced they all have paperwork.

Standard tax payers don’t pay 43% of Tax and NI?

Cool. Nice bonus there!

I just read your post as if it applied to every standard tax rate payer.
No sorry, just this scheme at my work. That's how I keep getting tempted to it every year as it seems like the best deal for your cash than all the other options when you add both the employer contribution along with the normal tax and ni incentive.
