After being quoted a stupid amount to have my roof fascias cladded with UPVC I decided I might have a go at it myself, as I`ll attempt most diy jobs. It`s on the side of the house where the roof slopes so no guttering to worry about, just need to deal with my fear of heights first.......

Anyhow, I`m not sure how the stuff is fixed on over the top of the wood. Is it just a case of using those little white nails? Or is there some other way of fixing it up that`s hidden?

Confused:cursing:

If the wood is sound, why not just repaint the wood?
If the wood is not sound, then there should be more to the job than just slapping some pvc sheeting on top of it.

The wood is ok, but I would rather UPVC it and forget about it, instead of getting up there every few years and risking falling 30 feet onto the drive every time!

60mm poly pop nails/Nailed every 600mm ... to fix the barge/ fasica (joiner)

... You will need scaffold to make a good job of it ... Doing it of a ladder/s is dicey for a first attempt.

we used to used gripfill and polly pins to secure but to be honest i dont think that cladding the wood is a good idea you can get damp building up between the upvc and the wood and you wont know about it untill the upvc falls on someone. its far better to remove the wood and put some thicker upvc sofit and facer bored up its more expensive but will last a lot longer

What is a stupid amount? I had all of my roofline woodwork and guttering removed and replaced with Upvc for less than £1000 on a 3 bed semi.
