To avoid losing momentum.
OK, if it was the ONLY traffic light en-route, there would be little or no point; but add-up the time spent stopping at every light on my commute and it really racks up. The bloody things are sprouting-up everywhere with little or no thought given to their sequencing. I do not cycle through traffic lights, whatever colour is being displayed, when it's unsafe to do so. BUT, if it's safe, I'm through.
1) What is the hurry?
2) How long is your commute?
3) Doesn't this remind you of people in tin boxes who will try and save two seconds by doing an dangerous overtake?
4)If you have been cycling over 45 years have you been RLJing for 45 years? (You have answered that 15 years)
No, I stopped being an over-zealous prick acting in a holier-than-thou manner because I was pissing into the wind.
I'm not trying to condone what I do, I'm merely trying to explain why I'm happy to do it. Frankly, I couldn't give a monkey's what you think about my cycling. I've managed to get through the past 45 years of cycling on the roads without serious injury to myself or to anyone else and I doubt that your 'campaigning for cycling safety' has had any bearing on that.
Now we are over zealous pricks pissing into the wind because we choose to obey the rules of the road...
Holier Than Art because I chose to stop at reds in respect to other road users?
Saddened to see the further decline in road standards.
Another thing I get on the (very) early morning commutes is the constant RLJing by motorists especially at Stratford which seems to be turning into bandit country at that time. This is quite a new thing...but these people see cyclists get away with it all the time and seem to copy it...with other bad behaviour...speeding mobile phones...etc etc...
It's funny how people bend the rules to suit but where does it stop?
Yes I know I get the odd bad driving but generally although I have my bad days I think it's ok.
