Your joke prompted me to google Neil Armstrong ( I knew who he was ) and it struck me what he, plus all involved in the mission achieved back in 1969. I had just finished my O Level exams and left school.
So when I’m next taking part in a pub quiz and the question is asked, I’ll know the answer, 20 July 1969.
There's an excellent " The rest is History " podcast episode with Tom Hanks as the guest. He comes across as a kind and charming person. He talks about the film " Apollo 13 " and meeting with various astronauts while researching his role. Well worth a listen.

Around the time I started caving I read about an expedition to Ecuador. The gimmick they'd used to get sponsorship was looking into Erich von Daniken's claim of space aliens having visited the caves, and somehow Neil Armstrong himself came along. The account tells of them all swapping stories about caving mountaineering and so on, and then the article went on to say "then everyone fell silent whilst Armstrong told the greatest adventure story of all".

A few of the cavers who later became friends had been on the trip
