There was, and maybe still is, a Birmingham University Metallurgy Society, which was indeed abbreviated on their t-shirt. And at work we had Business Unit Managers. We used the acronym without irony

I remember at university the subject societyies were things like
ChemSoc - for Chemistry
BioSoc for Biology and the like
the psycology society was
Psyco Soc
and their sweat shirts and t-shirts said
PSYCO Soc
and YES - we are watching you
anyway - back to people coming up with silly names for cyclechat groups

Yes - I didn't join it
anyway - my spelling is fine
my typing is not
and I have problems with words so once it is spelt wrong I can;t see how to fix it
which was interesting when I was a teacher!!!
At school (aged 6ish upwards) I was good at reading but terrible at spelling. Sadly it's not got much better.
I was naturally good at spelling, I could visualise the word as written. Sadly that's going with age.
