No offs thankfully but probably used up my ration of nine lives on Friday past due to a driver who decided to drive on the wrong side of the road at speed around a blind bend. I really did think my number was up. Driver swerved and lost control and hit the hedge on the other side but refused to accept he did anything wrong. "It's a blind bend with high hedges mate, how was I supposed to know you we there?"

Back in March, I had a night time misadventure on my mountain bike: take a steep, wooded, muddy descent, friends egging me on, and in Top Gun style, my ego writing cheques my body can't cash. Result: over the bars and a very awkward fall, diagnosed as a tear in my left medial collateral ligament, which made hobbling more than a few yards impossible. Luckily, my local bike shop has a physio who often sees this injury from his work with rugby players - he did such a good job in fixing me up that my repaired left knee is better than new, whereas my right knee continues to protest a little on long rides.

Crashed yesterday on commute home whilst entering a corner. I skidded a few meters on my right buttock before coming to a stop in the road, luckily I was going quite slow and traffic had plenty of time to stop. Just a little tender today, otherwise I'm ok. Phew. :okay:

Not sure what happened, it felt like my tyres had gone flat. On inspection there was plenty of pressure in both tyres. I must have lost traction in oil, mud or debris. At first glance just my bar tape was ripped. I had the bike in the repair stand last night so I could clean it and inspect for more serious damage, luckily there was no damage to the frame. I'll have a closer look at the dérailleur again tonight, as while in the stand it was working fine, but out on the road this morning the dérailleur was striking spokes, so I lost the use of my large cog on my commute in today. Those hills were a slog.

Luckily I have the hanger alignment tool in my garage and a stock of bar tape.

Stay safe out there.

When running a couple of weeks ago I fell over whilst running along the pavement. I can only assume I tried to step off the curb, but ended up hitting the deck like a block of flats

When running some of weeks agone I fell over while running on the pavement. I will solely assume i attempted to step off the curb, however all over up touching the deck sort of a block of flats.

These dodgy curbs!

I've fallen off twice this year, back in the spring.

First time was when I lost traction on a corner. It was on the club ride, not long after we'd left the cafe, I was at the head of the group but taking it fairly easy. Hadn't even touched the brakes. Just managed to find a greasy spot on the road, I guess. Hit the ground before I had a chance to realise what was happening. Nice bit of road rash on my right calf, totally wrecked the right half of my nice Sportful arm warmers. Also smacked my head quite hard on the ground so had to bin my nice Endura Airshell lid.

Second fall was just a week later, as I was climbing a short but steep hill, so going very slowly. Went too close to the edge of the road, got my front wheel stuck in a rut and just toppled over before I had time to unclip. The worst thing about that incident, apart from the sheer humiliation, is that I was wearing longs that day. The fall knocked the top off the scabs so by the time I got home my tights were completely stuck to my leg and getting undressed was a slow and very painful experience.

A few weeks ago, on the way home from the pub, the chain came off the fixed on a fast descent and, for the first time ever, locked the wheel.

It was entirely my fault for neglecting adjustment.

I came down and slid along the road for a while. Richard, behind me, reckoned we were doing about 35mph. He saw sparks – from the pedal, I think.

I straightened the wheel (it had pulled over) and got the chain back on. Then we rode home a little more gently.

I went on a four-day tour with friend the following week – tried to avoid snagging scabs on clothing and sheets.

The scars are healing quite nicely, thank-you

Just one fall this year, 40 miles into my first ride, on January 6th. A clipped in moment, entirely my fault and extremely uninteresting.

But I wasn't on Strava then, so perhaps it didn't happen.

Then yesterday, on what was probably my last ride of the year, I jammed my chain halfway through a busy roundabout. No alternative but to lift an arm and coast slowly to the side of the road. More of a "hold your breath" moment than an "ouch", for which I'm truly thankful.

Nothing in between that I can recall.

To be fair, even without the fall you may have been bonded to the longs
