Today is the 40th anniversary of my first long distance track race. Cinder track and 1/4 mile. Weather was scorching hot and iirc there was a big thunderstorm in the early hours. The rain was welcome at first but when it became torrential we took shelter in the timekeepers tent.
I did go out for a run today, waited till it got nice and toasty to mimic the original conditions 😁☀️☀️

I remember standing nervously on the start line and one of the other competitors remarking on " unlucky 13 " 😁

Proper shorts, I still wear them now, and if anyone says anything it's a case of, 'Kevin Keegan was European footballer of the year wearing shorts like that, so if they're good enough for him.'
