Today is the 40th anniversary of my first long distance track race. Cinder track and 1/4 mile. Weather was scorching hot and iirc there was a big thunderstorm in the early hours. The rain was welcome at first but when it became torrential we took shelter in the timekeepers tent.
I did go out for a run today, waited till it got nice and toasty to mimic the original conditions 😁☀️☀️

My Son who’s not been running 6 months (?) yet managed a 17.18 gun time in a 5k race this Morning. After doing his first Marathon yesterday……he tells me he’s got his training / mileage / rest in check. Let’s hope he’s right 😁

**5 or 10k is not where he’s at. The boy wants to be / is eating / sleeping and Training to get his kicks 26 miles at a time…..

What is the cheapest Garmin that you can display maps on for races etc?
It’s to replace my partners forerunner 55 which I believe doesn’t to it?
I have an instinct 2, I’m not sure that does it so will have to check

Good time how old is he?

Not a bad idea to run the distance in training.

I've seen so many guys get to 20 miles and hit the wall!

He should be able to go comfortably under 3hr?

He's 22. Only been at it this year.

Yes - Sub 3 hours is absolutely the goal. With his efforts, commitment, diet etc - his chances are very good i'd say.

Not sure if this is the right thread but some algorithm or other just showed me this story

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crmv9y2k3lno

A Scottish ultra-runner finished so far ahead in a 100-mile race that she was already home by the time the rest of the field crossed the line.
Anna Rutherford ran the inaugural Rat Race between Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland and Edinburgh Castle in 17 hours and 23 minutes – more than two hours ahead of the closest male competitor.
