Anyone done the RSPB birdwatch this weekend?

I've just finished mine. My garden - which is normally abuzz with birds - was eerily quiet for the whole hour, with virtually only our family of sparrows for company. How do they know?

At east you saw some! But yes that could be a factor.
I love watching the crows playing when it's really windy, they fly a way into the wind then just turn and shoot back again

They can stuff their bird survey up their feathers. We did it last year and they steadfastly refused to let us enter our daily visit by a Nuthatch. RSPB maintain it’s not a garden bird.
Excuse me it’s in our garden.

I’ll bet that’s the same 7 Starlings that come and hoover up our food too.

We did it yesterday and like the OP's garden it was eerily quiet compared to usual. We did have a flock of 14 sparrows at one point - my wife was struggling to count them so I suggested counting the legs and dividing by two.

The urge to send a spoof one in is strong but has been resisted thus far. We did have a techno-chicken in earlier though, a refugee from a local shoot, I guess.

Like most people have found it is not very representative of the birds in your garden. We didn't do it yesterday as it was raining and the birds stayed away.
Today it was sunny but windy and cold.
Before we started I saw 8 Woodpigeons around our bird feeders. By the time we got round to doing the survey the maximum was 4.

2 House Sparrows
2 Goldfinches
1 Bluetit
1 Jackdaw
2 Starlings
