Do you not have Wahoo tracking ride etc or Whatsapp location on? Lots of things these days which can track your ride in real time which is sent to whoever you want. Obs it doesn't let them know if an accident but it does show if you are stopped. A couple of times I've stopped and been faffing for a while or puncture and my wife noticed and rung me etc to check I'm not dead. It's a peace of mind thing. These do of course rely on having phone signal so in some areas that could be an issue.
Anyway, owt is better than nowt as they say.

I've toyed with this and would like to do similar. I suggested to Mrs P and I know the reality is after the first two or three pings she would switch it off.

I'd prefer to be using it.

This is hilarious. Why would you do it?

My real question though is where does this happen? Honestly, we never see this sort of thing up here in Lancashire. Is it something all them fancy Dans darn sarf do? Or am I spectacularly unobservant??

I wear white socks over bib tights ....I figured it would give extra visibility to car drivers as white 'blobs' moving up and down might contrast with everything else and so stand out. My shoes are a sort of grey. I have mudguards.

I did not realise it was a thing.

Ah but I do smile and wave and say hello to walkers, certainly on the small back roads where I often ride. And it's always reciprocated.

Around here pretty much all cyclist wave, nod or say Hi, as do most walkers and quite often car drivers on the minor roads.
I reckon it's only visitors who don't reciprocate 😃

I will ride on my own if no-one else is going out, but i prefer riding with others, as I enjoy the chat and the miles seem to roll past quicker than when I am on my own.
That makes sense to me. In winter I wear bright yellow overshoes for exactly the same reason. It's very visible from a considerable distance. A key factor when I buy overshoes is the colour.

Yes, I'm inclined to agree. Mrs P is far happier if I'm with my friends. She always asks who I'm going with.

I used to tour solo but after two life-threatening health scares I wouldn't again. I once mentioned some ideas I had. My wife said nothing other than to ask "Do you really think that's a good idea?"

I do miss solo tours. I didn't do many but I'd love to do more. Sadly not. I'm considering a group, escorted tour for the future.

I understand that.

Ms AU is the opposite; she has ridden in groups and was horrified by the groupthink and lack of observation. She felt safety was delegated to the ride leader, and everyone else blindly followed the leader.

She is much happier if I cycle alone and keep in touch via Whatsapp.

If you both have smartphones and on Whasapp then easiest way is use live location feature. Just send it at start of ride, can do for up to 8hrs. All she has to do is click on view location and she'll see where you are. Simple.

I follow Fede on Youtube as he makes some interesting videos. However, I'm not a fan of the dress style. White socks over bib tights is not one fashion I'll be following.
However, in the summer I also always wear trainer socks with bib shorts which is a no-no as well apparently but I always find calf length socks never stay up or are comfortable.
Basically I wear what I find comfortable although of course as with majority if they admit it, also don't want to look a total mess. I train hard and with weights which whilst of course very good for you especially as get older, I cannot deny an element of vanity in there as well.

You need some aero socks biggest bang for your buck, then you could have more rest days.😉
