Never been a member of a club or been on any organised ride and happy to be "Billy no mates" when out cycling. And "Billy no helmet/lycra/bibs/white socks" or any other cycling gubbins apart from some flat pedal shoes which double up as a pair of trainers anyway.

Social misfits are good. That's why I'm in that class. We don't have to keep up with anyone. But I do resent it when someone thinks they are more lowly than me. 😃

We have a WhatsApp group. There's probably about a dozen members in it. Very welcoming and no pressure to turn up each week. Everyone's got their own plans of course, so turnout varies...from 1 rider upwards!

One thing I noticed about group riding is that it takes more concentration and awareness, keeping distance from others and hand-signalling or speaking up to make others aware of approaching vehicles, potholes, horses etc. Takes some getting used to.
