I bought a Nexus 7 last week - it's a cracking piece of kit! I thought my quad-core HTC One X phone was fast, but the Nexus 7 is in another league. I find the size just right - I wanted something more portable than the bigger tablets and it fits the bill nicely.
I was going to root it to allow me to read & write to external media plugged into the USB port; however, as I've never rooted anything before I was rather apprehensive about bricking my new gadget before I'd even used it. Luckily, along came the Nexus Media Importer app which will allow you to view and access attached external storage without rooting. You can't write to it, but who cares really when you have Cloud storage or the ability to FTP / BlueTooth or WiFi over your files to other machines / storage?
