Update: Eurosport player is now working. I think Google fixed things on the quiet. I also seem to have two months but not sure if i've been charged for both yet

With respect to my Eurosport problem, Google say that my tablet isn't supported to use Google Play Store. This is despite me downloading several apps from it including previously purchased stuff with no problems.
It's entirely possible that they mean "we don't support it but it happens to work anyway".

"Google" and "support" are not words often seen in close proximity anyway, except in sentences involving the words "no" or "useless"

They were using it as the excuse for Eurosport not working though (although the app worked just the subscription refused to go through). It now works so either the gremlins have got bored and gone home or Google did something to fix it.

How well has the app Player been working since you first sorted it out?

I sometimes get server errors on the web version of the Player. Usually, I can reconnect after a short delay but it is annoying when it happens at a critical point in a race.

Does the app give any indication of the bitrate it is using? The web version maxes out at 1.8 Mb/s which is enough for okay picture quality, but tantalisingly short of HD.

I haven't found it to bad but I do get the odd buffering episode which is a bit weird. If I use cyclefans to pick up a live stream from a European tv station I have no buffering episodes at all so you'd expect a specially designed app to be ok. Other than that though it's been ok, my tablet is only a 7" one so the picture looks ok.

Not had any server errors as yet.

Ah yes - I sometimes get those too. They cause a brief delay and then the coverage continues from where it froze. Not a huge problem in itself, but that is also what happens before the server error failures so the buffering message puts me on edge because I think that the Player is about to crash on me and it might take a few minutes to get it back.

Got the asus slider, awesome. Never had any probs. Android is the dogs as far as Im concerned. The apple doesnt come near.

I've just got the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 yesterday. I've been thinking of a tablet for a while and decided to take the plunge but didn't want an iPad.

I don't know a lot about Android so I'm still feeling my way around it, but everything seems pretty intuitive, the screen is awesome and wifi and email etc were a doddle to set up.

As for anti-virus I haven't got anything specific on it, but I won't be downloading any random apps etc. I'll no doubt sort some protection out, but TBH I've not even looked at what's available.

They are all different and will suit some more than others. I'm an Apple fan but I don't go in for the knocking of others...it's just a bit of kit, not a bloody tribe.

I've upgraded to the Google Nexus 7 and to say I'm happy with it would be an understatement. My problem now is that my news aggregators bring back so much stuff I haven't got time to read it all!!!

Seriously thinking about the Nexus 7 - given the pain I've had with the ruddy Kindle. Got a works Ipad, but I don't let the kids use it much at all.

How do you find it with the smaller screen, especially when trying to type out an email or something? (I'm considering buying one for the wife)

I am using my Galaxy Tab to type this. I still prefer to do heavy-duty typing on my desktop or laptop, but all of my posts on CC so far this morning have been done this way, no problem.

I went for an 8.9" screen which is a good compromise between usability and portability.

I found clicking on closely-packed links with my finger a bit difficult so I bought a stylus which makes things a lot easier and reduces the build-up of greasy fingerprints on the screen. I think the Note comes with one included?

I can't praise it enough. My phone, HTC One X, has a 4.7 inch screen so the Nexus it quite a bit larger. I rarely bother to use the PC for internet based stuff (such as CC) anymore. Searches, forum participation, email etc are all done on the Nexus (even the phone gets little use at home as the devices duplicate and update each other). Out and about is easy with the Nexus, it fits in the pocket of my shorts so I can take it to the pub etc. BT Wifi manager seems to keep me within range of a hotspot whenever I need one.

I think I'd find a larger screen cumbersome to be honest. It wouldn't fit in my pocket, would I imagine take two hands to use effectively among other things.

I prefer typing on the Nexus to the iPad. The smaller, lighter machine makes it easier to hold and easier to reach the whole screen with your thumbs. If you've got a hard surface to rest it on, though, you can use all of your fingers for typing and the iPad is faster.

IMO, at least.
