I tend not to use them now, as they're all overflowing. They don't seem to get collected that often and loads of clothes I've seen sat outside in the rain. we used to get charity plastic bags through the letterbox but I guess they've stopped that now because of plastic. So it's charity shop for is, although it's a pain because of parking but worth it for a good cause

I use them but I assume , like the bags that get collected from your house, they are baled up and sold in bulk. I like to think they’ll be recycled in some way , but …

We have a privately run organisation local to us called the Clothes Bank, they take decent old clothing and help people in need, you may have a similar organisation near you.

There used to be a "shop" near my wife's old house that took old clothes and paid you for them

They just weighed the bag you gave them and paid by the weight only
I was a very basic sort of place and they checked the bag for "accidental not clothes object first"

it was a good place to get rid of the old decorating sheets and worn out clothes - they must have gone onto be recycled in some manner or other!
