I take part in archery and I am also a coach. Our club gives the option to continue to use the training kit used during the beginners course for up to 6 months when you join the club. We recommend this for most people as you are developing your technique and ideally you shouldn't introduce another variable of adjustment to new kit. Not ideal for everyone so if you are more comfortable with your own that's ok. We also recommend visiting an archery shop for equipment as the kit can be tailored to the individual. Something as simple as arrow length can make a difference. As someone with a disability it is an activity, like cycling, that I can do.

A good archery shop. There's one near us but the old guys running it are obnoxious, arrogant people. I think I'd prefer to go elsewhere. It's a shame as they do courses and even have a wood up the hill a bit with target trail you can book. Plus a decent looking stock.

The biggest issue was they were not good at customer service. I told them I'm new to it and I got a lot of technical questions fired at me. I last shot a fibreglass beginner bow 15 years earlier. How am I to know about draw strength iirc draw length and s few other things. You go to specialist shops to get specialist advice on niche products like bows.

So a good archery shop is a must if you don't know enough about the kit.

Sorry should have said. A good archery shop is a must. Unfortunately archery, like other activities including cycling, do get a few idiots who treat newcomers like garbage. They wallow in their arrogance and self perceived sense of their own importance.

A good shop will help you with these things such as by asking you to draw an arrow marked with measurements and noting where you draw to, then getting you to try different limb weights.
