Viz, in the days when it was good, before the original guys sold it on.
But Viz have always told us it isn't as funny as it used to be.

As a child read Marvel Comics, which I believe helped my reading age by an average of about 5 years when they use to do the test thing at school 🤔 Coming from a family that did not read books probably helped my English Comprehension (top3 in the class) even if my writing was and still is appalling and Language was near bottom of the class. When I became a teenager and got into music I gave the tea chest of comics I had to the 'yearly' (in those days) recycling drive / fundraising for the local scout and cubs. Probably worth a few Bob if I'd kpet them...
Only thing I have left is the Annuals, and a love of Marvel which I share with my children

Strange, I keep hearing Marvel and DC Comics are in trouble. In the US, their main distributor has stopped delivering them. Now a 70,000 sale of an issue would be considered good, which when you consider the size of America's population is extraordinary. I am not sure their parent companies care all that much. They are more interested in raiding their IP for films and merchandise.

I don't know what the situation is in Britain. I have not seen many issues of Whizzer and Chips recently, but I have not been looking. Maybe it has mostly died without anyone noticing. I don't know, but I gather comics are still do well in Europe and Japan.

Yep  Think I had the full run of UK Marvel comics (when Marvel did then), it was okay, not my favourite (Silver Surfer) but all part of my youth

Have to say, it looks a bit naff. I'd have called him Major Britain and given him a military moustache.

I wondered what happened to British comics, especially children's. It might be something to do with the price. In 1978 a comic would cost about 10p. Now an issue of 2000AD costs £2.99, mind you it is all colour now. Comics must have been a good employer of artists in their time.
I looked up which British comics are still going:
  • 2000 AD
  • Alec
  • The Beano
  • Beano Max
  • Chemical Blue
  • Commando
  • The Dandy
  • Doctor Who Magazine
  • Jarred
  • Judge Dredd Megazine
  • The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
  • Modern Toss
  • The Phoenix
  • Poot!
  • Spaceship Away
  • Toxic
  • Viz
Not as bad as I thought, but I wonder what sort of circulation they have.
