hi guys, i am nearly ready to start my jaunt into the world of road cycling but i need some sound advice..i have rugby players legs, not that fat but a little and want to simply TONE UP without adding bulk, can anyone suggest the perfect way to do this when riding?

Spinning the pedals in a light gear instead of grinding a high gear.

Most cycling tends not to add bulk - look at tour de france guys.

The ones with huge legs are specialists like Chris Hoy.

I've always had pretty big legs and although I've lost a lot of weight in the last year I've lost less from my legs than anywhere. They are less fat though, and better defined.

I think, personally, a lot depends on your genetics.

I guess if you can get your weight right down, then you won't need such huge muscles to get you up the hills but my leg muscles are enormous...

Ride lots.

Tone up means losing fat

I did, lost all my wobbly bits, gained lots of solid bits - come last winter I had to buy mens wellies as the womens ones wouldn't pull up over my calves & i've done the 'incredible hulk' on a pair of very tight trousers (Luckily hadn't left the house when it happened)

Actually my legs look like this, sit a giant pear on top and thats the rest of me LOL
i've had big rugby players legs for years, i used to grind in high gear alot, but nowdays i spin more, not only is it easier but it'll stop me having to get custom pants made!
other parts of me are loosing fat, my legs have toned up really well so far.
its not unusual as they say ;)
