Many coaches have personalised plates. I know a bloke who is very into vintage busses and coaches
and trains
I asked him about this once and he reckoned that they do it so you can't see how old the vehicle iswhich means they can maintain a "modern up to date" image by keeping the interior good and up-to-date
the interiors wear out quickly anyway so that is not an extra cost
and making sure the paint was OK
which is a LOT cheaper than getting new coaches every few years

That’s a bizarre idea!
Does he think there are people waiting for a coach who wouldn’t get on it if the reg number showed its true age? A modern, up to date image can be kept by doing what he’s doing but still keeping the standard plate on it. If it’s safe, clean and presentable, nobody cares what year it was registered.

Having a look at the above link, even second hand, it has to do a lot of work to make a return, without taking into account, drivers salary, maintenance & fuel cost on top, it makes absolute sense to look after it & stick a cheap Northern Ireland reg on it
