he reckoned that they do it so you can't see how old the vehicle iswhich means they can maintain a "modern up to date" image by keeping the interior good and up-to-date
the interiors wear out quickly anyway so that is not an extra cost

Does he think there are people waiting for a coach who wouldn’t get on it if the reg number showed its true age? A modern, up to date image can be kept by doing what he’s doing but still keeping the standard plate on it. If it’s safe, clean and presentable, nobody cares what year it was registered.
