I can attest that the original UK Lada can reach 100mph probably provided that you have a roman road with a downhill gradient and sufficient rock playing on the radio. My friend achieved this milestone back in around 1992 with me as passenger on the way to Wiltshire. I use the word probably as the speedometer in the Lada does not go up to 100mph. It sort of ended at around 95.Im sure any new car will do 100mph.
They do petrols, but that is not what they are particularly known for with the Octavia sized cars that we would need to look at. Certainly I have not seen any Octavias in petrol sold anywhere in my neck of the woods. You can only buy what is there and we really do not want to go right down the country to get a car.
Friend of mine has an Octavia VRS, it's definitely petrol
Methinks someone is searching for excuses...
The most recent *Fabia* VRS was a diesel, but yeah, the Octavias were all petrol IIRC.
Exactly, it's downright dangerousIf a car can barely do 70 then there are plenty of hills in Yorkshire where it's patently dangerous. The M62 from Manchester is one.
You have no reserve in tricky situations.
I have 2.0 diesel octy - great car, but mine a coastal car and a bit rusty.
No it isn't.
Well don't drive at 70 on those hills then.
Though if you think you need to be able to accelerate in "tricky situations" when driving at the speed limit, you really need some driving lessons.
There are very few situations where accelerating will get you out of a dangerous situation, and I can't think of any on a motorway.
We then your driving at 50mph and cars are doing 70 coming up behind you. One momentary loss of concentration and your toast, one overtaking manoeuvre goes wrong and you have a pile up.
I never suggested it might be.Having a car with more than adequate power isn't immoral.
I never suggested otherwise.Going over the speed limit is.
Those are two different things which you don't seem to grasp...
Wait til he finds out about heavy goods vehicles...
That is actually *exactly* what you said.I never said that but 50mph in a little car is dangerous!
You need to be comfortable at 70mph to get up up larger hills.
I've seen press reports (maybe avalable online?) where auto-headlights have been a big problem.... How is that you might ask?
At a T-junction where there are trees, cars travelling along the main road approaching the junction have been involved in collisions because their headlight have turned on under the trees - Motorists about to join the main road have pulled out because they thought the drivers were flashing their lights to let them out! Yes, I agree it's driver error and drivers shouldn't take 'instruction' from others, but they sometimes do. Without the automation, the incidents most probably wouldn't have happened (apparently there were many) . Maybe icowden will say these people were also lying![]()

I don’t understand how a car with over 100 bhp can’t do over 70, it’s either a limiter or you not pushing the pedal fully.
