I don’t understand how a car with over 100 bhp can’t do over 70, it’s either a limiter or you not pushing the pedal fully. My friends old beetle 1200 60hp would do over 70.
Im sure any new car will do 100mph.

I can attest that the original UK Lada can reach 100mph probably provided that you have a roman road with a downhill gradient and sufficient rock playing on the radio. My friend achieved this milestone back in around 1992 with me as passenger on the way to Wiltshire. I use the word probably as the speedometer in the Lada does not go up to 100mph. It sort of ended at around 95.

They do petrols, but that is not what they are particularly known for with the Octavia sized cars that we would need to look at. Certainly I have not seen any Octavias in petrol sold anywhere in my neck of the woods. You can only buy what is there and we really do not want to go right down the country to get a car.

My local garage (no longer a Skoda dealership, but they still have a service contract) brought the car I currently have up from Kent.

No it isn't.

Well don't drive at 70 on those hills then.

Though if you think you need to be able to accelerate in "tricky situations" when driving at the speed limit, you really need some driving lessons.

There are very few situations where accelerating will get you out of a dangerous situation, and I can't think of any on a motorway.

You are very, very wrong, it's not about acceleration, it' when the damn thing just slows down, and you cant change lane as it is so busy with undertaking and overtaking, whilst you end up with Mr/Mrs BMW/Audi/Tesla tailgating, I don't think you appreciate how very busy and hilly the M62 is between Bradford & Manchester during the day

We then your driving at 50mph and cars are doing 70 coming up behind you. One momentary loss of concentration and your toast, one overtaking manoeuvre goes wrong and you have a pile up.

So by your reasoning, all heavy trucks are automatically dangerous, since they are governed to 56.

And if you really think it dangerous to drive at that speed on the motorway, then please God tell me you don't drive. Because a very large number of vehicles will normally be driving at that sort of speed (when the road is clear enough).

Having a car with more than adequate power isn't immoral.
I never suggested it might be.
Going over the speed limit is.
I never suggested otherwise.
Those are two different things which you don't seem to grasp...

Can you give any reason whatsoever why you are lying about me?

I've seen press reports (maybe avalable online?) where auto-headlights have been a big problem.... How is that you might ask?
At a T-junction where there are trees, cars travelling along the main road approaching the junction have been involved in collisions because their headlight have turned on under the trees - Motorists about to join the main road have pulled out because they thought the drivers were flashing their lights to let them out! Yes, I agree it's driver error and drivers shouldn't take 'instruction' from others, but they sometimes do. Without the automation, the incidents most probably wouldn't have happened (apparently there were many) . Maybe icowden will say these people were also lying

I doubt there have been "many", although I don't doubt it has happened on occasion. There have certainly been times when my lights have come on going under a large underpass or through very dense tree arches.

And yes, I say that is driver error. If somebody is letting you out, they may flash the lights, but it will be a quick flash, not putting them on solid. And even if somebody flashes you, you should only pull out if there is room at the speed they are travelling.

What were those plasticy imports from eastern Europe (Yugo ?) in the late 80's - a colleague had one and it struggled up the M62 over to Leeds - I was passenger - frightening.

PS Skoda VRS's came in petrol or diesel. There has been a big switch to TSI (petrol) on the VAG group in recent years due to diesel 'issues' but there are plenty about of older ones.
