Are there any simpler cars around now?

I don’t understand how a car with over 100 bhp can’t do over 70, it’s either a limiter or you not pushing the pedal fully. My friends old beetle 1200 60hp would do over 70.
Im sure any new car will do 100mph.

I can attest that the original UK Lada can reach 100mph probably provided that you have a roman road with a downhill gradient and sufficient rock playing on the radio. My friend achieved this milestone back in around 1992 with me as passenger on the way to Wiltshire. I use the word probably as the speedometer in the Lada does not go up to 100mph. It sort of ended at around 95.
