So what does a track bike that you are talking about cost.

About £100,000+ for a world / Olympic class . Because of the wind tunnel, CFD and FEA analysis costs and the low double figure bikes produced.

That is an obscene amount for a bike. Just what do they have the makes them cost that much.

It isn't "what they have", it is about the fact that the very low production numbers means amortisation of the development costs is a very large part of the overall cost of the bike.

To keep competitve cycling an athletic endeavor and not start a technological spending race . This comes up at least once a year on one forum or another.

That's not a lot when it comes to sporting equipment at the highest level. As mentioned earlier you can multiply that by ten when it comes Olympic level track cycling.

Also they don't violate the rules but pass with the very smallest margins , which is exactly what they are for .

And that is not a lot of money for elite level sporting equipment.

Several years back, if someone attempted to race a bike that had aero shaped steel tubing, it would not have been allowed. But now look at the fantastic plastic CF bikes they allow today. You cant say they are not aero, when compare to say a 1980 racing bike.

Are you sure?

It was almost impossible to make steel tubes that aero while still being strong enough, which I am sure was the main thig preventing it, rather than rules.

But now look at the fantastic plastic CF bikes they allow today. You cant say they are not aero, when compare to say a 1980 racing bike.

Certainly they are. But that doesn't mean they are breaching any rules, simple or oterwise.
