Are waterproof overshoes worth using?

Facing the prospect of long rides in the rain, I'm wondering whether to get some overshoes. Do they work? Are they worth bothering with? Any recommendations on make? Thanks.

I have never found a pair that are fully waterproof. They will keep your feet warm rather then dry.

They won't keep you completely dry during heavy rain as the water will always find a way in, up from road spray or soaking down from your legs. What they do do however is keep your wet feet warm. So yes, they work for me.

I would say Endura the scots know a thing or two about the rain .

I use Gore ones too. They don't keep all the rain out but they are a lot better than none. I can't be bothered with them in light rain, but if it's going to be a downpour then they certainly prevent most of the cycling with your foot in a bath feeling!

I use the aldi ones for commuting, they do the job and are cheap enough that I don't stress when they get trashed. I save my etxeondos for the weekend

That's why I wear them and I wouldn't be without them for winter riding.

They cannot be waterproof if you use cleats........

Gave up on overshoes about 3 winters ago. Bit the bullet and purchased a pair of boots. Now use overshoes to keep my boots clean not as protection against adverse weather.

Agree with all of the above - I use overshoes all through the winter to keep my feet warm.
My other trick for warm feet is woolly socks - I have a load from doing hillwalking.

I know mine won't keep my feet completely dry, but they do keep my feet warm. Definitely worth using as cold toes and numb soles of feet does not contribute to enjoyable cycling.
