Yes they do to a point. If you really want dry feet it's winter boots. I also then use the overshoes when they get put out as my shoe of choice just like @ACS

Have used overshoes in past winters and while they do the job, they're flimsy and I end up buying 2 or 3 pairs over winter. I've just received a pair of Northwave Celcius boots in the hope that in 2 winters, they would have paid for themselves by not shelling out for overshoes during the winter months.

FWIW, the Castelli Diluvio 'shoes have a longer leg section which helps a little more with keeping water out.

No such thing as waterproof. Go for neoprene overshoes which will keep your feet warm both in cold and when wet. And yes they are very worth it. They work down to minus temperatures.

I've used them in the past and found they're OK for short trips but not on longer trips.

Gave up on overshoes about 3 winters ago. Bit the bullet and purchased a pair of boots. Now use overshoes to keep my boots clean not as protection against adverse weather.

Overshoes mostly work. To force them to completely work, I recommend applying large amounts of waterproof gaffer tape just where the top hem of the overshoes meets your calves. There: problem solved!

I use them through the winter for warmth, as mentioned by others. feet stay mostly dry, but for me warmth is the thing.

I use these neoprene ones. Can generally get 2 winters out of a pair before the zips give out (though I've had them repaired before) or the sewing round the cleat holes give way (though I have sewed these up myself too, in the past). I last bought a pair 2 winters ago, and they remain unused so far, as my previous ones still have some use in them.
