A couple of questions to an Abrahamic God...
1. Why do you let people kill each other over who has the best way of worshiping you?
2. Why have you always ignored everyone in Asia.
3. If the are over a billion Galaxys, each with over a billion stars, why did you pick this particular rock to create your followers?

My view: "nature is God". I believe that the solar system was created by some sort of big bang, and that everything since then is born from chemical reactions and evolution. One can easily see the science and thus the proof that this is what happened, however many Christians I've met have the opinion that "yes, but who created the big bang? It must have been God". Saying that, I do find most of Jesus' teachings to be very sensible if one wants to live in a civilized world - it makes sense to respect each other and not be jealous of your neighbours' ox. The thing I hate about dedicated religious followers is that they always attribute all the good stuff that happens to their respective Gods, but blame all the bad stuff on the scourge that is mankind.
In summary - you can agree with scientific proof but no-one will ever agree when it comes to religion because it's all a matter of belief and essentially opinion. To totally reject the scientific evidence that proves evolution has led us to where we are now is utterly naive in my opinion.

False analogy. You could easily see your own brain, for instance, if you had an MRI scan; and plenty of other people's brains have been taken out of their heads and kept in jars for students. There is no evidence whatsoever of the existence of a god.
That is simply not true. There is historical contemporary evidence in abundance for both Nero and Caligula. There is also some historical evidence for the existence of Jesus, but not much of it is contemporary and lots of it is anecdotal. And there is, again, no evidence whatsoever of 'your' Jesus i.e. something beyond an entirely human Galilean Jew who died in his 30s.
By all means believe in your god of choice. But it is 100% faith, not fact.

Meh, the RE classes I attended in secondary school contained more insightful discussion than this thread

Quite the contrary. I guess I am just disappointed that the level of debate presented by schoolkids was vastly more sophisticated and profound than what I've seen here.I'm getting the impression you didn't get too involved in those discussions either
I can only imagine that those who would put forward some proper arguments decided that the Cafe was not the appropriate forum, and that is probably just as well.

Really? So far this thread has been insightful and interesting and I'm glad its remained civil. To me RE classes in school was some old biddy telling me what i should believe and woe betide anyone who even dare question her ...
