+1It's the other way round. The tyre blows off the rim, allowing the tube to explode. So yes, it might be a knackered tyre bead allowing the tyre to blow off, or it could be a worn out rim flexing as pressure increases again allowing the tyre to blow off.
If it's a 1977 Galaxy, I'd be surprised if it was a non clincher rim. An overtired tyre seems far more likely to me. (I've been very impressed with Marathon Supremes on my tourer. Pricy though.)Clincher tyre on non clincher rim?
