Came up to use an ASL last night the front car had stopped before it, when he saw me coming up the cycle lane, he pulled forward into the ASL to stop me using it.

I am used to cars being in the ASL but to stop before it and then go into it to stop a cyclist using it, I don't understand.

Frequently happens if you've just pulled up into the ASL you'll see some people pull forward to block you. Not seen it happen from a distance.

Thats OK if I'm feeling bad .. I then pull in front of them, in front of the box... and may even set off a little slowly....

You should have knocked on the window and told him he was wrong...or opened his rear door!

Was a bit too shocked to do anything, he started moving when I was level with his front wheel, if I had been paying a little less attention I would have been cutting across a bit in front of him to discourage an immediate overtake when the lights changed whilst he was entering the ASL

Ah level with front wheel, thought you meant from 10 yards back. No that happens all the time. Happened to me last night, three times (and there aren't many ASLs in Sheffield).

This is where having a video camera on your bike might come in useful - not to stop it happening in the first place, but to provide evidence.

Using a motor vehicle to intimidate another road user is mindless.

Yip that happens all the time james, taxi's are the worst offenders here. The other similar one is pulling into the cycle lane to try and stop you passing

I will admit, I have (ONCE only), pulled over slightly more left than usual to save me having to get past a cyclist again along the set of some traffic. However, I know the road and knew that the car would be faster. I wouldn't do that any more though, I should of just waited behind him.

In Norwich, someone got annoyed that I was using the outside lane (over taking a bus). He tried scraping past and when I stopped him, when he did over take, in solid traffic he went as far left as he possibly good. I had words with him and told him to buck his ideas up or he'd be a wing mirror short next time.
