whilst it's not Citizen Kane i rather enjoyed Stallone's take on Judge Dredd - his "understated" (wooden to be less charitable) performance suits the role well; the look of it was true to the comic, and some nice details like including the Angel Gang, and even an ABC warrior from a different part of 2000ad. good fun - just like the original. We weren't expecting Hamlet after.all.

not seen the new one

On a Sam Raimi theme, I've got high hopes for Army of Darkness 2. What could possibly go wrong...?

Recasting Marcus Gilbert as Lord Arthur.... acting doesn't get more wooden.

As for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull... it was utter pants from start to finish, but the last half hour does make the rest of the film seem better, but only in retrospect... not that I'm fussy, heck i even enjoyed Temple of Doom, something i feel alone in admitting.

Some remakes are bad, some are good... I'd like to see the Tom Hanks films remade without Tom Hanks, same goes for Matt Damon, except Team America, he was quite good in that.

Re Nikita, the original French film wasn't that great either IMO... Luc Besson either hits the nail square on the head or misses it completely.

The Thing (1982) was a brilliant remake of the 1951 original.

Sometimes remakes work very well and can tell the story in a different way or updated for a modern audience.
I don't have much time for these constant remakes for no reason. (other than $$)
Wasn't the Maltese Falcon with Humphrey Bogart the third attempt at telling that story on film too?

I quite enjoyed the update/remake of The Manchurian Candidate too... it's certainly no worse than the original

Hands up who watched Rollerball? the remake of course, not the brilliant original.

You're in luck then, as it does have Nimoy in.
It is really good, especially Karl Urban as Bones.
I was genuinely surprised at how good the first Star Trek reboot film was... and bloody amazed at how brilliant the sequel was  I thought really really good films, especially with such a big budget were a thing of the past.

They should never have made Home Alone 3, let alone number 4.
I'd say they pushed their luck with Home Alone 2....
